Learning more about TKD events

Taekwondo events are vibrant and exciting. Taekwondo is one of the safest combat sports in the world, because combines the usage of safety gear and professional supervision. Besides the athletic benefits of the sport, during tournaments the students learn the value of friendship and fair-play. There are different type of events:

  • Testing Day: It is an event where the students get promoted to the next belt. Because the students need to show their skills, testing Days are good opportunity to learn about the different competition styles.
  • Scrimmage: It is a local school gathering. It is a good opportunity to practice the skills because it gives the student plenty of "sparring time"
  • Local tournament:  It is an organized event with formal rules and referees. It is a good opportunity to get inspired and get ready for the big league. You can participate in sparring, poomsae and breaking. Some local tournaments have points that get into the athlete's record.
  • National or International tournament: It is an organized event sanctioned by a federation or a recognized entity (USA TKD, AAU, PATU, Truescore). It allows athletes to accumulate points for the national or international ranking.
  • Seminar: Get deeper in your knowledge about a particular issue

TIPS FOR PARENTS

  • Competitions are exciting and full of adrenaline, and sometimes a little bit chaotic. If this is your first competition please have in mind that we strongly recommend our athletes to support each other during the entire competition, but this could be exhausting for little kids, so please plan accordingly for you and your family members.
  • Plan accordingly for snacks and food as sometimes the options available nearby are not healthy choices.
  • We strongly promote independence, but is important to help your kid check the competition list twice.
